Defining the talent picture that will support the strategic objectives of an organization is perhaps one of the most vexing challenges facing today's HR professionals. Over the past two decades there have been marked shifts in the perspectives of individual jobs seekers, organizational complexity, trends related to globalization, the nature of the employment relationship, rising healthcare/employment costs and a host of other factors. Finding talent is more challenging that it has ever been. There are 27 complex factors that affect the talent strategy picture in today's marketplace.
The core focus of the course is on gaining strategic perspective into the factors that drive the creation of recruitment and talent programs in a rapidly changing environment. Seminar students will gain valuable tools to evaluate the current state of talent in their respective organizations and the necessary insights to design a "go forward" recruitment strategy.

- Identify workforce requirements to achieve the organization's short- and long-term goals and objectives (for example: corporate restructuring, workforce expansion or reduction).
- Analyze labor market for trends that impact the ability to meet workforce requirements (for example: federal/state data reports).
- Identify internal and external recruitment sources (for example: employee referrals, diversity groups, social media) and implement selected recruitment methods.
- Brand and market the organization to potential qualified applicants.
- Recruitment sources (for example: employee referral, social networking/social media) for targeting passive, semi-active and active candidates
- Employer marketing and branding techniques
Chris Barton, MBA, SPHR
Chris Barton is the founder and Managing Partner of outplacement and career transition firm Barton Career Advisors and a Group Leader for the OutsideIn® Companies which includes recruitment solutions firm CBI Group and contingent workforce firm Placers. Chris is a former Fortune 100 financial services executive and has more than 20 years of experience working with professionals of all levels at some of the nation’s top companies. These include credit card giant MBNA America where he was SVP, Director of HR Strategies and Recruitment and Citizen’s Financial Group where he ran recruitment in an eight state region. Chris served as Chief Administrative Officer for entrepreneurial venture ComputerTraining.com, where he led Human Resources, Call Center Operations and Sales.
Chris is a highly sought talent expert, HR consultant and speaker. Chris received his MBA and BS from the Lerner College of Business at the University of Delaware and holds the prestigious Senior Human Resources Professional (SPHR) designation from the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM). Chris is the Vice President of the Board for the Greater Wilmington Delaware Boys & Girls Clubs. He has led seminar career development programs for many organizations including Junior Achievement of Delaware, University of Delaware Career Services and Towson University. Chris was nominated by his peers in 2012 for the Delaware Valley HR Person of the Year Award. He joined the Villanova University community in 2013 as an Adjunct Faculty member in the MS HR Development Graduate Program. Chris lives with his wife of 14 years Lori and their son Christopher II (13) and daughter Charlie (10) in Sarasota, FL.
