Session I: “Make Your Presentations Memorable” with Dr. Joel Worden
Effective communication is critical to establishing credibility, transferring knowledge, coaching people, and managing projects. Given the prevalence of slideware presentations, speakers need to know what research says about increasing our effectiveness as presenters. This interactive session will increase attendees’ ability to establish and maintain credibility through impactful presentations. Increasing your presentation skills increases your value exponentially.
Dr. Joel Worden is an Associate Professor of communication and literature at Goldey-Beacom College. He has presented on communication at a variety of venues, from the Society for Human Resource Management, to the Conference on College Composition and Communication, to Herr Foods, Inc. He is also the co-author of Up, Down, & Sideways: High Impact Verbal Communication for HR Professionals.
Session II: “Networking Nudge: Connecting through Communication” with Dr. Deanna Merritt
Do you need a Networking Nudge? In today’s highly competitive environment, it is becoming a managerial imperative to master the skill of communicating proactively through networking. And yet, even the most talented of us can become intimidated and self-doubting. This highly interactive session explores what the “experts” say about networking, why it’s important and what to do. Steps and strategies will be discussed to provide that “networking nudge” so many of us need.
Dr. Deanna Merritt is an Assistant Professor of management and marketing at Goldey-Beacom College. She is a “practitioner-minded” professional, engaged in research and writing on those topics of greatest relevance to organizational professionals in today's competitive marketplace. Her interactive and often humorous style makes her a popular workshop/seminar presenter in both private and public sectors.
Session III: “Communicating Across Your Organization in 2016: Considerations for Tool Selection and Message Tone” with Dr. Monica D.T. Rysavy
With the variety of electronic tools available to organizations today, it can be challenging to choose the appropriate tools for the message and tone for any given audience. This session will provide an overview of some of the latest tools available for electronic communication, will share a rubric to help compare tools in the future, and will offer tips for considering the most effective tone given the message, the tool and the target audience.
Dr. Monica D.T. Rysavy is an Assistant Professor and the Instructional Technology Coordinator at Goldey-Beacom College. She presents on communications and educational technology-related topics to a variety of audiences, both corporate and educational, from the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR), to the Association for Educational Communications & Technology (AECT), and most recently to the E-Learn-World Conference on E-Learning.
