  • GENERAL QUESTIONS
    Q. What are the benefits of joining Delaware SHRM?
    A. There are many benefits to joining Delaware SHRM, including:
    • Quality professional development programs ten months a year with recognized speakers who are experts in their fields
    • Networking opportunities at every chapter meeting
    • Leadership and volunteer opportunities
    • Access to the chapter's Job Bank with HR opportunities in the area
    • Up-to-date Legislative information and resources
    • Affordable membership fees that are tax-deductible
    Q. Do you have study groups for earning the PHR, SPHR or GPHR certifications?
    A. The certification chair coordinates a study group in the spring and fall prior to the certification test. In addition, by networking at Delaware SHRM meetings you may meet someone else who is studying for the exam and arrange your own study group. If you are interested in being a part of a study group, please contact our Certification Chair, Joe Stevens.
     
    Q. Whom do I contact if I have a question?
    A. Depending on the nature of your question there are different people in the chapter who can help you. First, take a look at the FAQs below. Each section includes the name(s) of the individual(s) who should be able to answer any additional questions that you may have about a topic.     MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS & DUES
    Q. How do I join Delaware SHRM?
    A. To join Delaware SHRM, go the Membership page. You can join online or print a hard copy of the application and mail it with your membership fee to the Chapter Administrator. Just follow the instructions. You also can join at the registration desk at a monthly chapter meeting.
     
    Q. Can I bring my completed membership application to the monthly Delaware SHRM meeting?
    A. Yes, feel free to bring your completed application to a monthly meeting, along with your tax-deductible membership fee.
     
    Q. Do I have to maintain a National SHRM membership to be Delaware SHRM chapter member?
    A. No, you can join as a Local Chapter Only member. However, we urge you to join the National SHRM organization. With 200,000 members, it is the largest organization supporting HR professionals. Its web site is rich with resources that can be used by every HR person, regardless of their function, specialty or experience.
     
    Q. How do I join SHRM National?
    A. You can join SHRM National by completing the on-line application on SHRM’s web site. Be sure to include Delaware SHRM's Chapter number 206 on your application.
     
    Q. If I belong to SHRM National, do I have to pay local chapter membership dues?
    A. Yes, the Delaware SHRM chapter membership fee is a separate charge. As a SHRM national member, you may be eligible for a discounted membership fee. Details about the cost of chapter membership are in the Membership center of this web site.

    A. Membership in Delaware SHRM is on a calendar year basis, running from January to December.

    PROGRAMS & MONTHLY MEETINGS
    Q. How can I find out about upcoming meetings and events?
    A. The calendar of chapter meetings is available from several sources. When you become a chapter member, you receive monthly chapter announcements by email and regular mail. The current year’s calendar is posted in the Meetings & Conferences Center of this web site. You also can find this information in the chapter’s quarterly newsletter, which is posted online.
     
    Q. How do I register for and pay for meetings?
    A. Advance registration is not required for regularly scheduled monthly meetings. You may register and pay at the door.
     
    Q. Is there time for networking at meetings?
    A. Yes, the first 30 minutes of each meeting is designated for networking.
     
    Q. How can I get introduced to other members?
    A. When you arrive at your first meeting, let the Registration Desk know that you are a new member, and they will contact a Board member to help make introductions. The members of Delaware SHRM are very friendly and always ready to talk to new members.
     
    Q. What are the typical topics that you address?
    A. Our programs cover a wide variety of topics in Human Resources (i.e. recruiting, employee relations, benefits, legislation, etc) and focus on topics of current interest. Members have the opportunity to suggest topics through the Monthly Meeting Evaluation Form or by contacting one of the Program Co-Chairs, Lynn LePore and Patricia Clendening.

    VOLUNTEERING
    Q. How do I find out about the volunteer opportunities in Delaware SHRM?
    A. There are many opportunities to volunteer through committees that have been established. To find out more about each committee, please feel free to contact any committee chair to learn about a committee's focus for the current year. You are also welcome to attend a Board meeting. Board meetings are typically held at 4:00 pm on the same day of the monthly meeting and at the same facility.
