More that 77% of Americans use at least one social media networking platform daily, the most popular being, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Blogs. However, the use of social media in the workplace teters on a fine line.

Word of Mouth can Become World of Mouth online which is a big advantage for most small businesses and it makes for great employee advocacy, when used appropriately.  However, social media use can also drain employees' productivity levels and having greater exposure online also has the potential of negative risks, including negative feedback, information leaks, cyberbullying and hacking.

Therefore, when it comes to creating a social media policy for the workplace, there are definite pros and cons of its use.

Each year the SHRM Delaware State Council, Inc. and Chapters in Delaware consider nominations for the Ron Shane HR Lifetime Achievement Award.  This award is presented to the individual who has continually shown outstanding service and has promoted the profession of Human Resource Management throughout their career.

A five member committee composed of Delaware State Council member(s) including at least one past recipient reviews the nominees and makes the final selection.
