Join us for a breakfast meeting to discuss Employment Law Update with Jennifer Jauffret & Lori Brewington.


Employment law constantly changes and evolves. This program will help HR practitioners to be more prepared to implement these current and evolving federal employment laws and regulations and to proactively prepare for proposed new laws and regulations. Also, the Delaware State Legislature has been active with increasing protections for Delaware employees. Overall, this presentation will provide HR practitioners with relevant up-to-date information, legal changes and up and coming issues in 2019; thereby allowing them to respond appropriately to employees, in the best interest of the employer, and importantly in compliance with evolving federal and state laws. Additionally, this presentation will provide practical tools and guidance to assist HR practitioners with recognizing and reducing some of the risks associated with HR involved business decisions.

Learning Objectives: 

  • To provide an update on various federal employment law topics, such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, the Americans With Disabilities Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the Trump Administration’s impact on employment laws.
  • To provide an update on Delaware state law topics, including sexual harassment and proposed legislation impacting employers and their employees.
  • To provide practical guidance based on recent case law of various courts’ rulings on
    employment matters.
  • To facilitate an interactive discussion and dialogue on issues that matter to HR practitioners. 

 This event is approved for 1.25 SHRM and HRCI credits. 




Jennifer Jauffret is head of Richards Layton and Finger’s Labor and Employment Group. She represents a wide variety of management clients in labor and employment issues in Delaware and neighboring states, including appearances before state and federal agencies and courts. An integral part of Jennifer’s practice is helping employers prevent and reduce exposure to lawsuits. 

Devoting significant time to her community, Jennifer’s pro bono work includes providing legal advice to Delaware nonprofit agencies, assisting domestic violence victims in obtaining protection from abuse orders, leading the firm’s Office of Child Advocate (OCA) volunteers, and working with OCA as a guardian for abused or neglected children. In 2018 she received the Delaware State Bar Association’s Community Service Award.

Lori Brewington represents a wide variety of corporate and business clients in labor and employment issues, as well as intellectual property and commercial disputes, in Delaware and Pennsylvania. A member of the Litigation Department and the Labor and Employment Group at Richards Layton and Finger, her practice includes appearances before state and federal agencies and courts.Lori provides employment advice on major corporate transactions and on general issues such as noncompete agreements and discipline/termination situations. She trains both managers and employees regarding compliance with employment laws. 

Born and raised in Delaware, Lori devotes significant time to providing legal advice to Delaware nonprofit agencies. She also serves as a guardian ad litem in family court to neglected and abused children through the firm’s partnership with the Office of the Child Advocate.

Representative Paul Baumbach (D, Newark) will provide an overview of the legislative process in Delaware and highlight how HR Professionals can get involved. Then James DeChane, Senior Vice President of Government Relations at the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce, will lead a discussion of pending employment related legislation in Delaware. This workshop will be a prelude to our Second Annual Legislative Day on May 16, 2019.

Representative Paul S. Baumbach grew up in Bel Air, MD. He received his Bachelors of Science from the University of Delaware, and his Master of Science from Villanova University. While attending the University of Delaware, he met his wife Pamela. They have been married since 1985 and live in Newark, DE. Their son Michael and daughter-in-law Jacquie also live close by in Newark, DE. Paul founded a financial advisory firm in Newark in 1996. Paul served for 2 years on the Newark Housing Authority Board, and for 2 years as president of Progressive Democrats for Delaware. Paul’s current occupation is the Director of Investments for Mallard Financial Partners, Inc.

James DeChane is the Senior Vice President of Government Relations Delaware State Chamber of Commerce.
