Monthly Member Spotlight: An Interview with Frank Ingraham, Ed.D., SPHR, SHRM-SCP
Frank Ingraham transitioned his previous DuPont career of human resources and business leadership experiences to the adult-learning educational environment of Wilmington University as an Adjunct Instructor teaching within the College of Business, and focusing on course work such as Strategy in Organizations, Decision Making, Business Ethics, and Human Resources. Frank makes available his consultative services (e.g., collaborative communications, professional coaching, goal achieving strategies, and conflict resolution mediation) to a wide range of clients. Frank is a longtime volunteer with the Wilmington University Alumni Relations, the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), and the Delaware Center for Justice (DCJ). Frank enjoys spending time with his family, the beaches of Delaware and Maryland, as well as searching family roots within the hobby of genealogy.
We recently caught up with Frank and he shared a little more of his background and vision with us. Read the interview below.
How long have you working in the HR field?
15 + years
What’s the best piece of advice you received along the way as you were building your career in HR?
The best HR career advice I received emphasized knowing our reputation and relationships are critical in our personal and professional worlds. Maintaining an ethical decision-making approach and to always act fairly and respectfully.
What advice would you give to a new college graduate?
My advice to a new college graduate includes focusing on three main areas: First, always do as much as you can, the best that you can; second, keep growing and learning; and third, continue growing your network of resources.
If you could live (and work) anywhere in the world, where would you go?
My selected choice to live and work anywhere in the world may sound un-exciting as I would choose Delaware as my home base and travel where my customers and clients are in need of my services (each of us already have options, we just decide to not elect certain options for specific reasons at this time).
Outside of your work in HR, what wakes you up in the morning?
My interesting life wakes me excitedly each day! Every day I strive to contribute in some way to help our surroundings to move forward in a positive way (e.g., my new book focused on mastering personal branding and life planning, enjoying family and travels, volunteering opportunities, exploring my genealogy roots, and finding ways to help others succeed).
What is a current issue you are passionate about?
Current issue I am passionate about is goal setting, accountability activities and helping others to plan their 'tomorrow' today (always have a Plan B).
Anything else you'd like to share with us?
I would like to share my frankingraham.com website and available resources posted, strongly suggest volunteering with outstanding organizations (e.g., Society for Human Resource Management, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, Wilmington University Alumni Association, Delaware Center for Justice), to surround yourself with great organizations and great people, and to be a positive contributor in life, which all contributes toward producing a win-win-win experience for all parties.
